Enjoy a 3-Day Fes to Marrakech Desert Tour via Merzouga, with Desert Marrakech Tours runs this one-way desert crossing for travelers heading from Fes to Marrakech who want to see the Sahara along the way rather than treating the two cities as separate trips. This route takes you south through the Middle Atlas, into the Erg Chebbi dunes for a night in the desert, then west across the High Atlas to finish in Marrakech — combining Morocco's imperial north, the Sahara, and the south's kasbah route in one continuous journey.

You'll travel with one of our own driver-guides in a private or small shared-group 4x4, staying in a traditional desert camp and a guesthouse along the way.

Duration: 3 days / 2 nights Starts: Fes Ends: Marrakech Group type: Shared group tour or private tour available Best season: Year-round (spring and autumn offer the mildest desert temperatures)

Why Book This Trip With Desert Marrakech Tours

  • No backtracking — cover the desert and reach Marrakech in one efficient route instead of returning to Fes first.

  • Direct operator — your vehicle, driver-guide, and desert camp are ours, not subcontracted out.

  • The full southern route, not just the dunes — Todra Gorges, Dades Valley, and Aït Ben Haddou are included, not skipped for speed.

  • Small groups on shared departures, with a private option available.

  • A natural way to link Morocco's north and south — practical for travelers who don't want to treat Fes, the Sahara, and Marrakech as three separate trips.

3-Day Fes to Marrakech Desert Tour via Merzouga — FAQs

Does this tour start in Fes and end in Marrakech, or the other way around? This tour is one-way, starting in Fes and ending in Marrakech, making it a practical option if Marrakech is your next stop after Fes.

Can I do this route in reverse, starting in Marrakech and ending in Fes? Yes, Desert Marrakech Tours also runs a 3-Day Marrakech to Fes Desert Tour via Merzouga for travelers heading in the opposite direction.

Do I need camel-riding experience for the desert trek? No, the camel trek into the Erg Chebbi dunes requires no prior experience; our handlers lead the camels and guide you the entire way.

What will I see in the Middle Atlas on the way from Fes? The route out of Fes passes through Ifrane and Azrou's cedar forests, often home to wild Barbary macaques, before descending through Midelt and the Ziz Valley palm groves toward the desert.

What are the desert camps like on this tour? The Erg Chebbi desert camp is a traditional Berber-style camp with tents set up directly in the dunes, including dinner, breakfast, and live music around the fire.

Can I book this tour as a private trip instead of a shared group? Yes, the 3-Day Fes to Marrakech Desert Tour via Merzouga is available as a private tour with your own vehicle and driver-guide, priced per group rather than per person.

How cold does it get in the desert at night? Desert nights can be cold even when daytime temperatures are warm, especially between November and February, so warm layers are recommended year-round for the overnight camp.

What should I pack for this tour? Layered clothing for temperature swings between day and night, comfortable closed shoes, a scarf or headwrap for the dunes, sunscreen, and a warm jacket for the desert camp evening and the cooler Middle Atlas crossing.
