Desert Marrakech Tours runs this 2-day trek to the summit of Mount Toubkal, North Africa's highest peak at 4,167m, departing directly from Marrakech. It's our fastest route to the top — ideal for travelers with limited time who still want a genuine high-altitude trekking experience in the High Atlas Mountains, guided by a local mountain guide from start to finish.

You'll trek with one of our own certified mountain guides, spend the night at the Toubkal Refuge below the summit, and reach the top before descending back to Marrakech the next day.

Duration: 2 days / 1 night Starts / Ends: Marrakech to Marrakech Group type: Shared group tour or private tour available Trek difficulty: Moderate to challenging (no technical climbing, but a long summit day) Best season: Late spring to autumn for standard trekking gear; winter requires crampons and an ice axe due to snow and ice near the summit

Why Book This Trek With Desert Marrakech Tours

  • Certified local guides — your guide is trained specifically for Toubkal's terrain and altitude conditions, not a general tour driver.

  • Direct operator — transport, guide, and refuge booking are all handled by us, with no third party in between.

  • Realistic pacing — a genuine two-day summit itinerary, not an overly rushed one-day attempt.

  • Private option available for trekkers who want their own guide and schedule.

  • A natural first step toward our longer treks, like the 5-Day Amazigh Villages & Mount Toubkal Trek, if you want more time in the mountains on a future trip.

2-Day Mount Toubkal Trek — FAQs

Do I need previous trekking experience to summit Mount Toubkal? Previous mountain trekking experience isn't required, but a reasonable level of fitness is recommended, since the summit day involves several hours of steady, steep walking at altitude.

Is the Mount Toubkal trek technical, or do I need climbing skills? No technical climbing is required in standard conditions; the route is a steep but non-technical trekking path. In winter, snow and ice near the summit require crampons and an ice axe and a higher level of preparation.

What is the Toubkal Refuge like? The Toubkal Refuge is a mountain hut at around 3,207m offering dormitory-style beds, meals, and basic facilities — it's simple but sheltered accommodation used by trekkers before the summit push.

When is the best time to trek Mount Toubkal? Late spring through autumn (roughly April to October) offers the most straightforward conditions for standard trekking gear, while a winter ascent (December to March) requires snow and ice equipment due to conditions near the summit.

Can I do this trek as a private tour with just my group? Yes, the 2-Day Mount Toubkal Trek is available as a private trek with your own guide, priced per group rather than per person.

Do I need to carry my own gear during the trek? Mule support is available to carry your bags up to the refuge, so you can trek with just a daypack if you prefer.

What should I pack for the Mount Toubkal trek? Sturdy hiking boots, warm layered clothing (temperatures drop significantly at the refuge and summit), a headlamp for the early summit start, sunscreen, and trekking poles if you use them.

Is 2 days enough time to properly acclimatize to the altitude? The 2-day itinerary is a fast ascent with limited acclimatization time; most trekkers manage it without issue, but those concerned about altitude, or wanting a gentler pace, may prefer combining it with extra time in the valley beforehand.
