Enjoy a 3-Day Marrakech to Fes Desert Tour via Merzouga with Desert Marrakech Tours, run this one-way desert crossing for travelers heading from Marrakech to Fes who don't want to skip the Sahara along the way. Instead of doubling back to Marrakech, this route takes you across the High Atlas, into the Erg Chebbi dunes for a night in the desert, and then north through the Middle Atlas to finish in Fes — covering two of Morocco's most iconic cities and the desert in a single, efficient itinerary.

You'll travel with one of our own driver-guides in a private or small shared-group 4x4, staying in a guesthouse and a traditional desert camp along the way.

Duration: 3 days / 2 nights Starts: Marrakech Ends: Fes Group type: Shared group tour or private tour available Best season: Year-round (spring and autumn offer the mildest desert temperatures)

Why Book This Trip With Desert Marrakech Tours

  • No backtracking — cover the desert and reach Fes in one efficient route instead of returning to Marrakech first.

  • Direct operator — your vehicle, driver-guide, and desert camp are ours, not subcontracted out.

  • The full southern route, not just the dunes — Aït Ben Haddou, Dades and Todra Gorges are included, not skipped for speed.

  • Small groups on shared departures, with a private option available.

  • Ideal for onward travel — a practical way to combine the desert with visiting Fes, rather than treating them as separate trips.

3-Day Marrakech to Fes Desert Tour via Merzouga — FAQs

Does this tour end in Fes, or do we return to Marrakech? This tour is one-way and ends in Fes, making it a practical option if Fes is your next stop rather than returning to Marrakech.

Can I do this route in reverse, starting in Fes and ending in Marrakech? Yes, Desert Marrakech Tours also runs a 3-Day Fes to Marrakech Desert Tour via Merzouga for travelers heading in the opposite direction.

Do I need camel-riding experience for the desert trek? No, the camel trek into the Erg Chebbi dunes requires no prior experience; our handlers lead the camels and guide you the entire way.

What are the desert camps like on this tour? The Erg Chebbi desert camp is a traditional Berber-style camp with tents set up directly in the dunes, including dinner, breakfast, and live music around the fire.

Will I see anything in the Middle Atlas on the way to Fes? Yes, the route from Merzouga to Fes passes through the Ziz Valley palm groves, the town of Midelt, and Middle Atlas cedar forests around Ifrane and Azrou, often home to wild Barbary macaques.

Can I book this tour as a private trip instead of a shared group? Yes, the 3-Day Marrakech to Fes Desert Tour via Merzouga is available as a private tour with your own vehicle and driver-guide, priced per group rather than per person.

How cold does it get in the desert at night? Desert nights can be cold even when daytime temperatures are warm, especially between November and February, so warm layers are recommended year-round for the overnight camp.

What should I pack for this tour? Layered clothing for temperature swings between day and night, comfortable closed shoes, a scarf or headwrap for the dunes, sunscreen, and a warm jacket for the desert camp evening and the cooler Middle Atlas crossing.
