Desert Marrakech Tours runs this 5-day trek for travelers who want more than a fast summit push — a real journey through remote Amazigh (Berber) villages in the High Atlas before finishing with a Mount Toubkal ascent. Instead of the direct 2-day route, this trek takes a wider loop through valleys most visitors never see, staying in village guesthouses and mountain refuges along the way.

You'll trek with one of our own local, certified mountain guides, who know these valleys personally, with mule support available to carry your gear across the route.

Duration: 5 days / 4 nights Starts / Ends: Marrakech to Marrakech Group type: Shared group tour or private tour available Trek difficulty: Moderate to challenging (multiple long trekking days plus a summit push) Best season: Late spring to autumn for standard trekking gear; winter requires crampons and an ice axe near the summit

Why Book This Trek With Desert Marrakech Tours

  • A route beyond the standard trail — this trek spends real time in Amazigh villages most Toubkal itineraries skip entirely.

  • Certified local guides — your guide knows these specific valleys, not just the main Toubkal route.

  • Direct operator — transport, guide, mules, and accommodation are all handled by us, with no third party in between.

  • Private option available for trekkers who want their own guide, pace, and schedule.

  • A complete High Atlas experience — village culture and a genuine summit, rather than choosing one or the other.

5-Day Amazigh Villages & Mount Toubkal Trek — FAQs

How is this different from the 2-Day Mount Toubkal Trek? The 2-day trek is a direct route focused on reaching the summit as quickly as possible, while this 5-day trek takes a wider loop through remote Amazigh villages in the Azzaden Valley before finishing with the same Toubkal summit push.

Do I need previous trekking experience for this route? Previous mountain trekking experience isn't strictly required, but a good level of fitness is important, since this trek involves several consecutive days of walking at altitude, including the Toubkal summit push.

What are the village guesthouses like? Village guesthouses (gîtes) on this route offer simple, comfortable rooms or dormitory-style beds run by local Amazigh families, with home-cooked meals included.

Is the Mount Toubkal summit included in this trek? Yes, the summit push to Mount Toubkal (4,167m) is included as part of the itinerary on Day 4, following the village trekking days.

When is the best time to do this trek? Late spring through autumn (roughly April to October) offers the most straightforward conditions for standard trekking gear, while a winter attempt (December to March) requires snow and ice equipment due to conditions near the summit.

Can I do this trek as a private tour with just my group? Yes, the 5-Day Amazigh Villages & Mount Toubkal Trek is available as a private trek with your own guide, priced per group rather than per person.

Do I need to carry my own gear during the trek? Mule support is available across the route to carry your bags between villages and up to the refuge, so you can trek with just a daypack.

What should I pack for this trek? Sturdy hiking boots, warm layered clothing (temperatures drop significantly at altitude and at the refuge), a headlamp for the early summit start, sunscreen, and trekking poles if you use them.
