Escape Marrakech for the day and trade the desert heat for the Atlantic coast. Run by Desert Marrakech Tours, this full-day excursion takes you from the Red City to the walled coastal town of Essaouira — a relaxed port town of blue-and-white streets, fishing boats, and sea breeze, roughly 2.5 hours from Marrakech by road.

As with all our day trips, you'll travel in a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle with one of our own local driver-guides — not a subcontracted driver — so the pace of the day can flex around your group.

Duration: Full day, approx. 10–11 hours round trip Departure: Early morning from your riad/hotel in Marrakech Return: Evening, back to your Marrakech accommodation Group type: Shared group tour or private tour available Starting point: Marrakech (Medina or Gueliz pickup)

Itinerary

7:00 – 7:30 AM — Pickup in Marrakech Your Desert Marrakech Tours driver-guide picks you up directly from your riad or hotel and gives a short briefing on the day ahead before heading west out of the city.

7:30 – 10:00 AM — Drive to Essaouira A scenic drive of roughly 2.5 hours through argan tree country. Along the way, your guide points out argan cooperatives and the changing landscape as you move from the Marrakech plains toward the coast. A short photo/rest stop is included if the group would like one.

10:00 AM – 12:30 PM — Essaouira Medina & Ramparts Arrive in Essaouira and walk the UNESCO-listed medina with your guide: the Skala de la Ville sea ramparts, the old fishing port with its blue boats, the fish market, and the narrow streets of shops and art galleries. 12:30 – 2:30 PM — Free Time & Lunch Free time to explore at your own pace, browse the souks for woodwork and jewelry, relax on the beach, or try fresh seafood at one of the port-side grills (lunch is not included in the tour price, giving you the freedom to choose where and what to eat).

2:30 – 4:30 PM — Optional Activities Depending on your interests, your guide can point you toward: a beach walk, horse or camel riding along the shore (extra cost, arranged locally), or simply more time in the medina. Let your guide know your preference in the morning so the schedule can flex.

4:30 PM — Depart Essaouira Meet your driver-guide at the agreed pickup point in Essaouira for the return drive to Marrakech.

7:00 – 7:30 PM — Arrival back in Marrakech Drop-off directly at your riad or hotel.
